Within the programme of activities to enjoy from home Three Cultures with youIn substitution of the screenings of the Tuesday Film Series, the Foundation offers the screening of The hatless (Tània Balló, Manuel Jiménez Núñez and Serrana Torres. Spain, 2015, 60 min.), an essential documentary that aims to shed light on the figures of these great women in Spanish history.
In 1914 a group of women emerged who fought with courage, bravery, intelligence and determination for women's rights in a Spain that condemned them to mediocrity. Their legacy made it possible, a few years later, for their most advanced students to free themselves from the intellectual and social limitations that constrained them, participating without complexes in the intellectual and cultural life of Spain in the 1920s and 1930s. They were the sinsombrero, a group of free women belonging to the Generation of '27, one of the most important artistic and intellectual movements in Spanish cultural history, who stayed in Spain after the Civil War, despite the reprisals that this entailed.
Five years ago, Serrana Torres, Tania Balló and Manuel Jiménez decided to make a documentary about the life and work of these women. Outstanding writers of early 20th century Spanish literature who for decades had been ignored by textbooks and official culture.
We would like to thank the director and directors of the documentary for their generous collaboration, which makes it possible to offer this documentary in open access. They themselves present this work for the audience of Tres Culturas Contigo.
