As part of its work to promote dialogue between peoples, the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo is collaborating in the art exhibition Baja al Sur: al-Andalus which will be on display in Geneva, Switzerland, from 12 November 2020 to 9 January 2021.

This exhibition, organised by the Vesaniart art gallery and the Institute of Arab and Mediterranean Culture, ICAM, brings together works by eight contemporary visual artists who turn their gaze to al-Andalus to reinterpret its legacy in the 21st century.

The aim of the exhibition, curated by Vesaniart's director, Nuria Delgado, is to bring contemporary Spanish art to the Swiss public and to reflect through art on the richness of cultural mixing throughout history, highlighting the rich Arab heritage in Spain after almost eight centuries of Andalusian legacy.

Al-Andalus (711-1492), whose mark is still alive today, was a period of maximum splendour in the Iberian Peninsula and especially in Andalusia, at the forefront of science, philosophy, architecture, literature and music, among other disciplines, as well as being a model of intercultural and religious coexistence, which is so threatened today.

The artists selected for this initiative are the Spanish artists Abraham Benzadón, Ana Pavón, Daniel Garbade, Julia Diazdel, Mar Aragón, Pedro Peña and Sebastián Navas, and the Swiss artist Kelly Fischer as guest artist.

In addition to the support of the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo, this exhibition has the sponsorship of the Spanish Embassy in Switzerland and the collaboration of the Vice-Rectorate for Culture of the University of Málaga.
