Tres Culturas and the La Caixa Foundation take stock of their joint action over six years

The Minister of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, Elías Bendodo, and the corporate director of Territory and Centres of the La Caixa Foundation, Rafael Chueca, presented on Monday 31 May the balance of the six years of collaboration between this institution and the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation.

Bendodo, who chairs this Foundation, reviewed the most significant milestones of this period, during which Tres Culturas has received 250,000 euros from La Caixa. This contribution has been used to carry out some of the Foundation's most important activities in recent years, such as the major forums organised in 2016 and 2017 on geopolitics in the Mediterranean and the education system in Andalusia.

Similarly, the La Caixa Foundation was present at the fifth edition of the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies, WOCMES Seville 2018, which was inaugurated by His Majesty King Felipe VI and brought together in Seville 3,000 participants from 90 countries to debate and share the latest studies on the Middle East, covering the most diverse perspectives, from the analysis and resolution of conflicts to migrations, the environment, culture, the media and studies on Al-Andalus.

Already in 2019, La Caixa contributed to the implementation of various events related to the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Tres Culturas, including an important exhibition inaugurated in Rabat by the President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno.

And last year, the support of this entity was crucial for the development of the cycle 'Back to Three Cultures', a complete programme of films and open-air concerts.

For this 2021, the collaboration agreement between the two foundations has already been signed, by which both have renewed their common commitment to foster knowledge of different cultures, promote democratic values and practices, and recognise the valuable contribution of the three monotheistic religions to the cultural construction of the Mediterranean area. All of this through a series of cultural activities such as an important music festival at the end of July or the 'Sepharad in Three Cultures' cycle during the month of September.

Bendodo stressed that the collaboration between the Three Cultures Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation is a magnificent example of the benefits of cooperation between public and private entities with the aim of achieving greater social welfare. "Public-private collaboration is the only way to success, so that Andalusia can grow economically and also as a society," he added.

Also present at the event were the Secretary General for External Action of the Andalusian Government, José Enrique Millo; the Director of the Three Cultures Foundation, Concha de Santa Ana; the Regional Director of CaixaBank in Western Andalusia and Extremadura, María Jesús Catalá; and the Regional Director of CaixaBank in Eastern Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla, Juan Ignacio Zafra.
