Diversity is considered a fundamental element of cultural heritage on all five continents and, according to UNESCO, "is as necessary for humankind as biological diversity is for living organisms".
One of the aims of the Fundación Tres Culturas is to highlight the value of coexistence and interaction in harmony and mutual respect between various cultures that coincide in the same place and time. For this reason, we are dedicating the month of May to diversity, with a programme of activities that includes a concert by the group Zalema.
Born in Baza (Granada) at the end of 2015 with the intention of strengthening common bonds between different cultures, Zalema uses flamenco as a binder, proposing a repertoire based mainly on their own arrangements of traditional Andalusian themes of Sephardic, Arab and Christian origin, both past and present.
Literature and music merge. The structures of flamenco and its palos (tangos, soleá por bulerías, farrucas, tanguillos, bulerías, abandolaos, galeras, tientos...) are brought together with lyrical romances of novels or border songs, wedding songs, Andalusian moaxajas, nanas, cantigas de Alfonso X el Sabio, zarabandas...These are part of our legacy, presented under a unifying prism far removed from the concept of "purism" and which understands our music as a gift of "impurity", daughter of the best family, miscegenation.
