Details

  • Date: 14 November 2023
  • Time:
    20:30 - 22:00

Coinciding with the celebration of the Morocco in Three Cultures programme, in November the Foundation offers a cycle dedicated to Moroccan cinema.

A new generation of men and women who have decided to direct and tell their country's stories through film are making their way into the most prestigious international festivals. Some of these Moroccan directors already have an established international career and others are beginning to make their mark in the industry in a country with a great film tradition.

In addition, other institutions, such as the Dutch organisations Bridge2Connect and Marmoucharesponsible for the production of the book Sons of al-Andalus and the documentary of the same name, delve into the past, telling the personal stories of Moroccan Muslims and Jews descended from Andalusian ancestors.

Tuesday, 14 November, 20.30 h.

Screening as part of the Cátedra al-Ándalus project

Sons of al-Andalus. Bridge2Connect and Marmoucha.

The screening will be preceded by a video presentation by Rick Leeuwestein.

Bridge2Connect and Marmoucha published in 2021 Children of al-Andalus (Sons of al-Andalus), a book that is the result of research carried out in Morocco, in search of descendants of Jews and Muslims from the medieval kingdom of al-Andalus. The book has been turned into an interesting documentary.

"Although Muslims and Jews sometimes seem hostile to each other, there is a long tradition of harmonious coexistence on both sides of the Mediterranean. With Sons of al-Andalus We want to visualise it in order to make it an inspiring example of Moroccan-Andalusian culture and identity today.

The historical period of Al-Andalus, with its unprecedented intellectual, cultural and artistic flowering, is one of the foundations of our civilisation today. It is considered a world civilisation of extraordinary and enduring beauty. Morocco's living Andalusian cultural heritage is a source of inspiration to many. It is an example of the immense cultural diversity of the world.
