Bharata Natyam

At the framework of the cycle "India in Three Cultures, the Tres Foundation Cultures in collaboration with Casa India is pleased to present G. S. Rajan and Rama Vaidyanathan, accompanied by musicians Lalgudi Sriganesh and Vidya Srinivasan, in a concert of Carnatic flute and classical dance Bharata Natyam on 18 October at 8.30 pm.

 G. S. Rajan

Renowned flautist and composer from India, he belongs to the first generation of  artists who trained at Kalakshetra, the famous art school in Madras. He studied singing and flute with renowned musicians such as M.D. Ramanathan and H. Ramachandra Shastri. His long professional career (he has been creating music for over three decades) has established G.S. Rama Vaidyanathan

One of the most outstanding dancers and choreographers of Bharata Natyam from India. Disciple Rama has performed at the most important national dance festivals in the world, and has been the guest of acclaimed masters such as Yamini Krishnamurty and Saroja Vaidyanathan. India. Rama Vaidyanathan has received the Sanskrti and Indira Gandhi awards for her work in the arts. She is currently the director of Ganesa Natyalaya, an art centre in New Delhi, where she teaches Bharata Natyam.

Lalgudi R. Sriganesh

He was introduced to mridangam drumming at the age of eight in the southern Tamil Nadu state of India studying with master Sri V. Nataraja Iyer. Later he continued his mridangam apprenticeship with Sri A. Prem Kumar at All India Radio, New Delhi. In 1985 he started working as a musician accompanying leading dancers and as a conductor of Carnatic music orchestra. He has participated in numerous international festivals in countries like Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Srilanka, South Korea, Greece etc. and in concerts for radio and television in India. At as a musical director, he has conducted several percussion ensembles under the patronage of the National Academy of Performing Arts and Music Sangeet Natak Akademi. Since 2003 Lalgudi has been a founding member of the Dhvani Music Ensemble. In the same year he was awarded the Mridanga Kalamani Prize in New Delhi.

Vidya Srinivasan

Born into a musical family, she was fortunate enough to begin studying singing at an early age with the great masters Padmavathy Natesan and O.V Subramaniam. Her training in Carnatic music was later forged in the University from Delhi where she obtained her master's degree and doctorate in music. Besides giving recitals as a soloist in Carnatic singing, she has composed numerous pieces of music for classical dance from India. Also is a musical accompanist to leading dancers such as Leela Samson and Swapana Sundari. Vidya has performed at numerous festivals all over the world. India and has presented singing performances in Australia, Latin America, Asia and Europe.
