The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO in 2012 instituted 18 December as World Arabic Language Day.
History bears witness to the role that the Arabic language has played for centuries in the circulation of knowledge, between different cultures and through the ages, being the best example of a symbol of unity in diversity.
The Fundación Tres Culturas and the Asociación Azarquiel are joining in this celebration by organising a day of collective reading, both of original texts in Arabic that have been translated into Spanish, and of original texts in Spanish whose translation can be found in Arabic. The event will take place in the Infanta Elena Public Library in Seville on the afternoon of 18 December.
This event is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of this language, as a transmitter of Islamic and scientific wisdom, to the common heritage of humanity.
To this end, the organising institutions have opened a deadline until 15 December for the receipt of texts, which must meet the criteria described in the rules. From the total number of texts received, a selection of ten will be made, which will be recited at the collective reading day.
