We begin our 2025 film programme with a cycle dedicated to the Nador International Film and Common Memory Festival, with three sessions on Tuesdays 14, 21 and 28 January showing some of the award-winning films from the last edition. With their profound narratives and richly constructed characters, these award-winning works reflect the history, social concerns and environmental challenges of their respective contexts.
We inaugurate this cycle on Tuesday 14th with the screening of the documentary film Four Veins, by director Nonio Parejo, who will be present that afternoon along with the two protagonists of the film, Plácido Rodríguez and Maribel Adrián, and the documentary filmmaker and director of communication of the Festival, Rafael Guerrero.
Tuesday, 21 January, 20.30 h.
Moro (short film) Pablo Barce. Spain, 2023, 15 min. Award for Best Fiction Short Film.
Morocco, 1973. Leo's family is finalising the details of their permanent move to Spain. It is almost twenty years since the country ceased to be a Spanish protectorate and the situation is gradually disadvantaging both foreigners and those who, despite being born there, are not Moroccan. For some, returning to Europe means returning to their place of origin; for many, like Leo, leaving North Africa means leaving home.
Mora est lá. Khalil Zairi. Morocco, 2023, 87 min.
In this documentary, Moroccan director and screenwriter Khalid Zairi explores the generational traumas of the Moroccans who worked in the French mines of Imane Ben-Hammou. The years have passed, but the miners' wounds persist, passing on from father to son this unease with the injustices experienced in their families. The filmmaker has managed to rescue the often forgotten stories of these workers and to bring to light problems that still persist, such as mining companies withholding the medical records of former miners suffering from chronic respiratory diseases to avoid having to pay compensation.
With the collaboration of the International Film Festival and Common Memory of Nador.
