The Palestinian writer Mazen Maarouf narrates in his Jokes for militiamen stories of life in a war zone, from the not-so-naïve perspective of a child with a wild imagination, riddled with surreal mistakes and tragic accidents.
Jokes for militiamen is a brilliant collection of short stories in the vein of authors such as Roald Dahl and Etgar Keret, winner of the Almultaqa Prize, the Arabic Man Booker Prize. It has been translated into ten languages and has been acclaimed by critics and readers alike.
This book will be presented by the author himself on Thursday 3 April. He will be accompanied by fellow writer Munir Hachemi.
