The life of the Sufi Abu Madyan is the result of a personal, intellectual and practical synthesis of the Eastern and Western Sufi currents in their dual version: that which was cultivated and developed in the Maghreb and that which from Massarra took root in the lands of al-Andalus.

With Abu Madyan a new Sufism emerges, which adds to the inner experience the social projection as an inescapable part of all Sufism lived and practised after him. His deeply rooted spirituality pervades the entire Muslim world from al-Andalus to the Middle East. For this reason, he is called "master of masters" or "example for seekers". His teachings are an encouragement to live in freedom and authenticity, a call to liberation from the tyranny of personal egoism and an antidote to fanaticism and sectarianism.

Ramón Barragán Reina, teacher and lecturer in Geography and History, is a member of the Seville Association of Local Chroniclers and Researchers (ASCIL) and of the Vega Media del Guadalquivir Regional Association for Democratic Memory.
