Professor Belén Cuenca presents a journey from late antiquity to the construction of the Alhambra, analysing key buildings of different cults, in order to understand what we call Islamic art in the Iberian Peninsula.

In an inclusive discourse, Andalusian art has many elements of its own which, together with others from elsewhere in the Mediterranean, make up a great cultural apparatus essential to the understanding of medieval and Renaissance Europe, and which has survived to the present day.

Belén Cuenca Abellán holds a degree in Art History and a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is a founding member of the Asociación de Jóvenes Investigadores en Ciencias de las Religiones (Association of Young Researchers in Religion Sciences), and has published several articles, such as From Fustat to Cairo: history of the city and its mosques, Islamic history as a method of counter-narrative o The Almohad Reformation: Religion, Art and Propaganda.
