Bécquer and the witches. Elena Cid Sebastián. Spain, 2018, 78 minutes
Immersed in the fast-paced 21st century, a young poet in crisis discovers Bécquer's "Letters from my Cell". Captivated by these stories, especially Letter VI ("The Death of Aunt Casca"), she decides to follow the poet's route and delve into the magical stories that are still hidden from the view of the new times. In 1864, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, suffering from health problems, retired to the Monastery of Veruela. Away from the noise and social-political activity of the capital, the poet immersed himself in the landscape of the mythical Moncayo in Zaragoza. There he strolls through the local villages and discovers a world full of customs from other eras and legends. Legends that converge in Trasmoz, a small village at the foot of the Moncayo, "the village of witches", the only officially cursed and excommunicated village in Spain. A place where a few years ago a witch was murdered: Tía Casca. Today, this curse can only be lifted by the Pope of Rome. In "Andalucía es Documental", the passage of the great romantic author Bécquer through the village of Trasmoz and his interest in the legends of witches and the terrible persecution of the Spanish Inquisition.
We will have the presentation of the writer Pilar Alcalá García, participant in the documentary and expert on the figure of Bécquer.
