The Fundación Tres Culturas, within the framework of its European project INTREPIDA Plus, is organising this new event to discover the different techniques of Sevillian artistic ceramics and its history thanks to the BarroAzul Gestión Cultural project.
BarroAzul is located in the most pottery street in Seville, in the heart of the Triana neighbourhood, where many locals still remember the hustle and bustle of the employees of the last large factories to close, such as the Santa Ana factory, today the headquarters of the Triana Ceramics Centre, or the Ntra. Sra. de la O factory, now the Hotel Montalván.
Nowadays, although there are few workshops left, there are initiatives that bring us closer to this historical past of the Triana neighbourhood and that invite us to initiate us into the millenary practice of ceramics, the mysteries of the glazes, the different techniques, styles, trends, uses and history of an art that never fell into disuse.
BarroAzul was founded by Paula Felizón, anthropologist and ceramist, and Antonio Librero, art historian and cultural manager. They are joined in the project by Pilar López, potter and ceramist, and Honor Edgecombe, ceramist and visual artist.
Their centre goes beyond the practice of ceramics, it is an immersion adapted to the needs of each visitor. They offer the possibility of working freely in the workshop using all the materials available, as well as the kilns for firing the pieces. On the other hand, they welcome people who wish to have the experience of painting a piece and keep it as a souvenir, or give it as a gift to others. They also offer group visits to guide groups through the neighbourhood, with special emphasis on the visit to the Triana Ceramics Centre, in which both founders participated as documentalists, which ends with the practice in the workshop. They also offer a catalogue of artistic ceramics and hand-painted tiles for the private use of their various public and private sector clients.
This INTREPIDA meeting will allow us to get to know this project from its headquarters in Triana in person. There will be a small group in the morning and another in the afternoon. This is a free activity that provides the necessary material in a suitable environment that has all the sanitary measures for the development of the activity. Activity for adults.
