In the framework of the cycle that the Foundation dedicates to the Sephardic culture in September, a series of activities highlighting the richness of this culture, undeniably linked to our roots and our vision of the world, have been programmed.
Under the title "Sepharad at the heart of Morocco".The Fondation des Trois Cultures presents the work carried out by Mara Aranda on the Sephardic origins in this country, through an atelier of Sephardic songs, a concert and an exhibition of musical instruments.
Mara Aranda is the most international of Spanish Sephardic music interpreters. During three decades of hard work, she has researched and recorded Valencian, Turkish, Greek, Occitan and ancient, medieval and Sephardic music. She has thus been able to create a score of excellent first albums and has received recognition from the public and the specialised media.
This opus is the first of a series entitled D I A S P O R A, composed of 5 albums dedicated to the Jewish-Spanish tradition of Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia. The album Sepharad at the heart of Morocco received the title of "best European album of the year" in 2017 and was ranked ninth in the Transglobal World Music Chart.
Il est composé de couplets, de chansons lyriques, appelées Kantikas et aussi romansasconnected to the old Romancero. These romances speak of epic, historical or legendary characters linked to the medieval past of the peninsula and which are still sung today in Spain, in America and by the Sepharades of the geographical regions of the diaspora.
Moroccan and Syrian musicians collaborate on the album Séfarade au cœur du Maroc, bringing their inspirations, their emotions and their know-how under the musical direction of Jota Martinez, specialised in the instruments of the Spanish medieval tradition and interpreter of music played on a wind instrument, a citole and a luth.
