  • End: 17 November 2017

As a culmination of the II Intensive Course on Andalusian Music: Music Theory and Improvisation, which is being held as part of the 'Month of Morocco', the students will give a small concert in which they will put into practice the knowledge acquired during the course.

Andalusian music is cultured music, the fruit of the civilisation of Al-Andalus (711-1492). As such, it encompasses a myriad of elements of great emotional, spiritual and rational richness. This music, preserved today in the countries of the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia) by oral transmission, bears witness to an original system, extremely rich and structured in an extraordinary lyrical form.

Andalusian music belongs to the group of modal music, together with the liturgies, court music and popular music of the medieval period. Its modal conception is currently unique in the world, being integrated into a traditional conception that unites the rational and spiritual aspects.

In addition, local flamenco artists will perform at the concert, demonstrating the closeness of the musical heritage of both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar.
