Hamid Ajbar Sufi Music

It arises from the impulse of the mystical ensemble of Sufi music in commemoration of the Mosque of Granada. A group of professional musicians who make up one of the best orchestras on the Andalusian scene.

Among its objectives is to develop new Sufi musical programmes, traditional repertoires and artistic innovation, thus betting on a new concept of Arab music in general with an Andalusian theme.

Programme:

Sufism is a mystical stream of Islam, which encompasses more than fifty million people worldwide. Its purpose is to inspire a union between human beings and God through the elevation of the soul to a higher stage of consciousness.

Sufism means purity and wisdom, cultivating the heart, it is the way of Love. Sufi is a person with his feet on the ground and his head in the sky. It is based on Harmony, Beauty and Love, growing in the spirituality of oneness with God and His Creation, everything, everyone and the universe.

Indeed, Sufi chanting promoted not only the initiatory instruction around a sheikh (master) and his group of disciples (tariga), but also the transmission of the most emotional and religious sense to the people. It did this above all through religious chanting, sacred dance, instrumental music with the oud, drums and cymbals, and the repetition of the name of God (dikr).

The singers who lead this ceremony are the munshid who also establish the silences. This ceremony with its periods of intensity is related to the concept of makam, which has to do with the idea of realisation of unity through various states.

In this ceremony with the presence of the sheikh and "directed" by the munshid are other members called zakira, who also intervene in the chromatic scale with micro-intervals and increasing the tempo, while at the same time taking account of the direction of the munshid. All this in the most natural way and without apparent effort.
