Within the special programme prepared by the Fundación Tres Culturas for the month of Ramadan, there are two special dates that will include several proposals in one, including the moment of the iftar or breaking of the fast. The first of these dates is 8 June, which will combine several activities.
- Conference The esoteric symbolism of Andalusian music. 8.30 p.m.
Given by Amin Chaachoo, a musician and musicologist from Tetouan (Morocco) specialising in Andalusian music.
His long stay in Seville allowed him to come into direct contact with the traditional music of Spain and Europe and to get to know its essence, especially that of western medieval music. In Seville, he trained many musicians and gave numerous lectures. Currently, in Seville, Amin Chaachoo is a member of four musical groups specialised in Islamic music, oriental music, flamenco music, Sephardic music and Christian medieval music: Samarcanda, Caravazar, Zejel and Medialuna Flamenca.
In 2013, he created the Tetouan-Asmir Centre for Musicological Research and the Conservation of Musical Heritage, a centre dedicated to promoting musical science, founding a Music Library and rescuing and cataloguing audio and video recordings.
In this lecture, he will talk about Andalusian music belonging to a period, the medieval period, and to a region, the Iberian Peninsula, in which the metaphysical component conditioned man's attitude towards the universe. This attitude could be seen in the different artistic expressions of the people, music being one of the most eloquent in terms of spiritual consideration.
The formal melodic structure, the conception of the musical mode, the personal improvisation and the social consideration of music show the total subordination of Andalusian melodies to the esoteric vision of the world, common to all ancient religions and doctrines.
- Iftar or Breaking the Fast.
After the conference, it will be time for conviviality, meeting and dialogue with the audience, who will be able to enjoy traditional dishes and sweets.
- Samarkand Concert.
Sephardic music group made up of three members who perform the melodic and rhythmic tradition of the East: Amin Chaachoo, Luis Alfonso García and Joaquín Rodero, who accompany themselves on original string and percussion instruments, from the oud or Arabic oud and the bouzouki from the Greek to the Caucasian tambourine, the Egyptian tambourine or the violin. All of them instruments of great plastic and sonorous beauty.
