This course aims to review the main geopolitical components specific to the region in terms of geography, history, economics, political violence and international relations.
This will be done through a combination of readings from political science and international relations, projections, analysis of primary sources and documents as well as practical exercises, simulations and presentations. In addition, case studies of Arab countries will be carried out from a comparative perspective.
It is aimed at the general public, no previous knowledge of these subjects is required.
Among the objectives, we highlight the following:
- Contextualise the current situation in the Middle East within its geographical framework, incorporating a diachronic analysis.
- To familiarise students with some of the theoretical debates in geopolitical terms used to explain political developments in the region.
- To raise students' awareness in terms of the heterogeneity of the countries in the Middle East and the relevance of the region in the context of international relations.
