The Two Moons Show

Details

  • Date: 15 December 2022
  • Time:
    20:30 - 21:30

The Tres Culturas Foundation is hosting the show Le Due Lune, a collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid.

The show recounts an episode from One Thousand and One Nights, with the interpolation of 16th- and 17th-century Italian poetry and arias, verses belonging to Arabic and medieval literatures, and music from the ancient Maghrebi and Arab-Andalusian tradition.

The narration unfolds through a weave of Italian and Arabic, immediately drawing attention to certain archetypal themes present in humanity's ancient poems and stemming from an ancient culture of shared knowledge common to all civilisations.

Betrayal, knowledge, freedom, beauty, fraternity and love are the pillars upon which the light yet profound story of The two moons support will be given to restoring the ear, heart and intellect to their capacity to rediscover the roots of civilisation and a love for them.

The entire show stems from a tale from One Thousand and One Nights, an epic collection of Arabic roots and Indo-European ur-heritage that displays the feeling of love through grand metaphors, journeys, and an understanding of humanity in its most diverse aspects. An ethos that transcends the barriers of community and belonging. At the centre of the show is the female figure of Shahrazād, an archetypal and universal emblem of female intelligence and wisdom. A figure that perfectly represents two sides of the same reality: two cultures, Western and Eastern, which confront one another using the privileged instrument of art as a distinctive message of fraternity, love and beauty.

Organised by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Madrid in collaboration with the Fundación Tres Culturas, the show has the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in Spain.
