The Fundación Tres Culturas and Casa Árabe (with the collaboration of the Sísifo research group of the Archaeology Department of the University of Cordoba) are organising this series of conferences as part of the 1300th anniversary of Cordoba as the capital of Al-Andalus, in which a selection of the most important cities in the history of Islam, which at some point were the capital of an important medieval kingdom or empire, will be analysed.
This series includes a strategic selection of the most important cities in the history of Islam which, at some point, were the capital of an important medieval kingdom or empire. All of them will be presented by world specialists in their study, who will address both the history of the capital in question (its period of greatest apogee and urban expansion, offering an informative visual contribution that conveniently expresses its evolution and development) and a critical and current vision focused on the study and conservation of the vestiges of the cities that have survived to the present day (abandonment, despoilment, wars, real estate pressure, etc.).
Tres Culturas will hold seven conferences in this series (from 10 May to 15 November 2016), analysing the cities of Seville, Marrakech, Murcia, Granada, Cordoba, Sabra al-Mansuriyya (Tunisia) and Fez. The first conference will be given by Professor Miguel Ángel Tabales from the University of Seville and will take place on Tuesday 10 May at the Tres Culturas headquarters at 19:30.
