The Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo pays tribute to the figure of Vincenzo Consolo with the programming in the Tres con libros reading club and subsequent presentation of the work 'Conversación en Sevilla' (Conversation in Seville). Edited by the professor and translator Miguel Ángel Cuevas, it brings together interviews and various interventions in different forums in Seville during 2004.
Consolo, who belongs to the tradition of the great Sicilian authors who love their island, to which Leonardo Sciascia, a friend and constant point of reference in his conversations, also belonged, is considered one of the sharpest writers in Italian literature.
Vincenzo Consolo (1933-2012)
He was born in Sant' Agata di Militello (Sicily), off the Aeolian Islands, and is an excellent connoisseur of a Sicily which, as one of his texts says, smells of blood and jasmine. His works include novels with a historical-metaphorical tone such as 'La sonrisa del ignoto marinero' (1976), 'Retablo' (1987), 'De noche, casa por casa' (1992) and 'El Pasmo de Palermo' (1998); quasi-memorialistic stories such as 'Las piedras de Pantálica' (1988) and 'El olivo y el acebuche' (1994); plays such as 'Lunaria' (1985) and 'Catarsis' (1989).
