Cátedra Al-Ándalus - Lecture 'The Travelling Alhambra. Orientalist architecture in Ibero-America'.

Details

Within the framework of the al-Andalus Chair, the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo is hosting the conference 'The Travelling Alhambra. Orientalist architecture in Ibero-America', by the lecturer Rafael López Guzmánone of the most outstanding figures in the field of art history and heritage studies in our country.

This conference will take an exciting journey through the cultural and artistic imprint of al-Andalus beyond its usual spatio-temporal borders, focusing on the impact that its legacy had on the American territories as a result of colonisation.

Through a rigorous and informative approach, Professor López Guzmán will analyse the ways in which the aesthetic, constructive and symbolic elements from the Andalusian world and particularly from its great icon of reference, the Alhambra in Granada, were reinterpreted and re-signified in the New World, giving rise to a romantic and orientalist recovery.
