L'artiste textile Estela Melo, créatrice de l'entreprise Ovelha Mãeis one of the Portuguese artists who will be in Séville, during the month of March, as part of the activities of the CARPET project.
Ovelha Mae has developed a passion for working with linen, which has led her to have her own troupe of weavers in the rural region of Aveiro. Constantly striving to improve her technique, curious and active, she has taken part in many training courses for CEARTE in Coimbra. Since 2004, she has been devoting herself to historical studies that show the cycle of the art of painting in Portugal, Spain and Italy, giving courses, creating workshops and participating regularly, as a specialist, in colloquiums on design and craftsmanship in Portugal.
She collaborates regularly with Portuguese designers, such as Filipe Faísca and María Gambina, in the development of pieces for authors. She has also created several pieces of furniture for theatre and film companies. Her pieces have been exhibited in various national and international exhibitions.
She currently divides her time between her role as a shaper in the textile artisan sector (where she focuses particularly on the techniques of feutrine, fabric and dyeing) and the development of pieces for her own brand, Ovelha Mãe.
During her stay in Séville, she will be sharing a space to The Sentido House gérée par María Varona.
