Tuesday cinema. Cycle 'A new generation of Moroccan filmmakers'.

The most current Moroccan cinematography is becoming a reference point if you want to have a vision of the changes that are taking place in Morocco, especially at the social level.

The last decade has seen the emergence of a new generation of filmmakers who have a different approach to what the role of film should be in the context of a society that faces complicated challenges and where problems such as corruption, lack of opportunity, marginality and the rise of religious fundamentalism persist. Gone are the days when the human rights situation was complicated and its narrative was subject to censorship. In a way, cinema here has exercised its cathartic function and opened up rooms that were closed, airing them and letting that fresh air reach society as a whole.

This fresh air is also directly reflected in the forms, which are innovative and break with the schemes and formats usually used in Moroccan cinema, resorting to a dark, rough, crude aesthetic treatment, with a realism that draws on elements taken from film noir, film noir and cinema noir. film noir which in other times and circumstances has been used by many directors to reflect what was happening in their society.

For the October cycle of Tuesday Cinema (which will begin on the last Tuesday of September, in the context of the Moroccan Cultural Week), we have selected films that serve as an example of this new wave of Moroccan cinema that is not afraid to confront (seeking reconciliation) the country's recent past, nor taboos such as prostitution or clandestine emigration, nor the hidden reality of criminality. And all of this from the point of view of artistic quality and recognition endorsed both at international festivals and internally in Morocco.

– L'enfant endormi. Directed by Yasmine Kassari. 14 October.

– C'est eux les chiens. Directed by Hicham Lasri. 21 October.

– Mort à vendre. Directed by Faouzi Bensaidi. 28 October.

The screenings (in original version with subtitles) start at 20.30 with free admission until full capacity is reached.
