The commemoration every 27 January of Holocaust Remembrance and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity Day - a date designated by the United Nations General Assembly since 2005 to remember the universal lessons of the Holocaust, which must not be consigned to the past and forgotten - traditionally serves to frame the programming of our film series at the beginning of the new year.

This holiday is designed not only to honour all the victims of the Holocaust during World War II, in which apart from 6 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, disabled people, Slavs and political and religious dissidents such as Jehovah's Witnesses also perished, but also to encourage the development of educational programmes to prevent future acts of genocide.

Unfortunately, these prevention programmes have not always been effective, and other genocides have marked the history of the 20th century. In this January 2014 edition of Martes de Cine, we would like to take a look at all those other victims and genocides that are no less deplorable for being less known. Crimes such as those committed against the Armenian people or those that have recently taken place in Darfur, as well as against gypsies and homosexuals, are the focus of the films that will be screened.

From our Foundation we want to help in the education of present and future generations to avoid the repetition of these situations.

The following films will be screened Ararat (7 January), Bent (day 14), Korkoro (day 21) and Darfur now (day 28). All films will be shown in their original version with Spanish subtitles.
