Details

  • Start: 13 May 2014| 22:30
  • End: 27 May 2014| 19:00

The film programme of our Film Tuesday in May is once again dedicated to literature, coinciding with the celebration of the Book Fair during that month. Women without men, The stone of patience y A bottle in the Gaza Sea are the three novels whose film versions we have chosen for this occasion.

The first of these is a 1990 work by Iranian Shahrnush Parsipur, an author whose political positions and writings have earned her several jail terms and a ban on her novels in Iran. Made into a film in 2009, the film is set at the time of the coup d'état that the British and the CIA orchestrated to overthrow the government and impose the dictatorship of the Shah.

The stone of patience  won its author, Atiq Rahimi, the prestigious Goncourt Prize in 2008. Rahimi, exiled from his native Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion, returned after the fall of the Taliban regime and set the novel there, which he himself made into a film as a director.

The last film in the series, A bottle in the Gaza Seais a short novel by French-Israeli writer Valérie Zenatti that raises questions about coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, through the epistolary relationship between a girl from Jerusalem and a boy from Gaza.

These three novels, turned into films, constitute our traditional approach and homage to literature through cinema every May.
