Organised jointly with the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad.
In line with the priority objectives of its Menara Project - which seeks to generate structures and networks for cooperation, research and exchange of knowledge and experiences between the north of Morocco and Andalusia - the Three Cultures Foundation and the Ministry in Charge of Moroccans Resident Abroad base the programming of the Tuesday Film Series in December on Spanish-Moroccan co-productions.
The aim of this cycle is to avoid placing the spotlight on immigration, where stereotyped images are all too present, and to give priority instead to a diverse approach that focuses on cooperation, on showing how collaboration between mixed Spanish-Moroccan teams produces magnificent results, in this case cinematographic works.
In this way, three sessions will be organised in which co-productions will be screened by professionals and companies from both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar.
The first film, You are all captains(Spain/Morocco, 2010, 78 min.) is an exercise halfway between documentary and fiction, in which the history of Morocco is portrayed at the same time as the director, Óliver Laxe, recounts his attempt to shoot a film in Tangiers with a group of children.
Normal kids (directed by Daniel Hernández; Spain/Morocco, 2008, 85 min.) will be the second film in the cycle. This documentary is based on real experiences, and allows us to enter the homes and lives of three young people from Jamaa Mezwak, a marginal neighbourhood in the city of Tetouan where five of the suicide bombers of the Madrid bombing in March 2004 were born.
The cycle of screenings and debates will be closed by Away (directed by André Téchiné and written by Faouzi Bensaïdi; France/Spain, 2001, 120 min.) a film that tells the story of Serge, a French truck driver who travels periodically between France and Morocco and who has a peculiar passionate relationship with Sarah, a young Moroccan woman who is hesitating to emigrate to Canada with her brother.
