After the holidays, we return to our usual Tuesday film event, and we want to do so by giving our own space to one of the great genres of cinema, suspense, thrillers, the thrillerWe have had samples of it throughout our trajectory, but now we are dedicating a specific cycle to it.
Thriller productions are not the most common in the Middle Eastern cinema that usually reaches the screen of Three Cultures, which is more inclined towards drama. However, despite the scarcity of production of this genre in the region, some directors have shown an effective expertise in the making of this type of cinema, managing - within their own socio-cultural contexts, and even taking advantage of them - to generate in the spectator that sensation of pleasurable fascination and emotion mixed with apprehension.
That's exactly what the Iranian film achieves About Ellywhere a constant sense of doom sets the tone; the same feeling, but seen through a complex historical-political prism spiced with feelings of guilt, is achieved by Israel's Walking on water. The psychological element comes to the fore in the multi-award winning Turkish film Once upon a time in Anatoliawhile the Egyptian Cairo 678 -inspired by real events - can be seen as more of a thriller social.
