Tuesday Film December dedicated to French animation: Short film session

Details

  • Date: 14 December 2021
  • Time:
    20:30 - 22:00

The Fundación Tres Culturas, in collaboration with the French Institute, is offering the two film sessions of the last month of 2021 to French animation.

France is a pioneer in animated film because of its long tradition in the field of comics and its co-productions with Belgium, the birthplace of the genre. Creators such as Émile Cohl (Émile Courtet), officially considered the first animation director, or Alexander Alexeïeff, known for the 'needle screen' developed with his wife, Claire Parker, kept France as a leader in the sector for decades. A leadership that it still maintains in Europe, as the main producer and co-producer of animated feature films.

Tuesday 14 December, 8.30 pm.

Short film session

The Boy with the Bell. Jacques-Rémy Girerd. France, 1998, 26 min.

An orphan fallen from the sky in his wicker basket, in the middle of a fairy-tale forest. Who is he? Where does he come from? The mystery is dispelled when a plump and depressed Father Christmas appears, despairing at having lost his own child while making his rounds.

A lynx in the city. Nina Bisiarina. France, 2019, 7 min.

A curious lynx leaves its forest, attracted by the lights of the nearby village. It had a great time there, until it fell asleep in the middle of a car park. Early in the morning, the astonished residents discover this strange animal covered in snow

Umbrellas. José Prats and Álvaro Robles. France, 2020, 12 min.

In a remote rainy village, six-year-old Kyna spends her days playing without a care, well protected beneath the umbrella beard of Din, her father. One night, Nana, her beloved dog, goes missing. To find her, Kyna will have to face her greatest fear, the rain.

Trona Pinnacles. Mathilde Parquet. France, 2020, 13 min

Gabrielle finds herself trapped near Death Valley, between her two parents who are no longer speaking. The three of them, feeling trapped, try to escape from the ambient tension, within a vast setting that seems to them immutable. The situation seems hopeless, until something unexpected happens that extinguishes everything.
