Music is a key element in cinema, which gives meaning to the work and manages to move the viewer, causing them to remember not only the story, but also its soundtrack. The documentaries we will be screening in the July film series are dedicated to this artistic combination of film and music.

Gazela del Estrecho. José Luis Tirado. Spain, 2023, 100 min.
Choral ensembles are a popular and universal phenomenon. There are thousands of them all over Europe. The choir of Tarifa - Europe's southernmost city on the Strait of Gibraltar (Cádiz) - rehearses an original song composed for the documentary, while its members, most of them women, narrate their musical and social experiences, in an exercise of citizen politics in relation to vital issues such as education, health, housing, work, gender, the environment or the destruction of the productive fabric. A local story, full of humanity, poetry and truth, which is also universal.
Gazela comes from "Ghazal", a lyrical genre of love poetry, of Andalusian origin. With the Choir and Band of Tarifa, directed by Pepe Muñoz Manso, with music by Javier Ruibal and lyrics by Juan José Téllez.
The director of the documentary, José Luis Tirado, will be present.
