Father's Day. Kivu Ruhorahoz. Rwanda, 2022, 111 min.
Award for Best Fiction Feature Film.
Father's Day weaves together three interwoven stories about the crisis of fatherhood in Rwandan society. As a mother copes with the loss of her son, she feels herself slowly distancing herself from her husband. Despite her distant relationship with him, a daughter prepares for the organ donation that will save her father's life. Finally, a child discovers the adult world through his father's life of crime. Told with crystalline precision and mounting emotional intensity, Father's Day is a stark and humane enquiry into the sacred bonds that shape contemporary patriarchal culture.
