This film directed by Miguel Ángel Nieto (Spain, 2009, 82 minutes) will be screened as part of the 'Sepharad in Three Cultures' cycle.
The last Sephardic tells the story of Rabbi Eliezer Papo, who, in search of a language, Ladino, and a people, the Sephardim, embarks on a fascinating journey through Jerusalem, Istanbul, Salonika, Split, Sarajevo, Curaçao and Toledo, recovering old songs, ancient tales, dramatic experiences and beautiful words that have survived for more than five centuries in the memory of the Sephardim.
Defined by the director himself as "a journey through a culture and a language on the verge of extinction", this film has been one of his documentaries with the greatest repercussions both with the public and with national and international critics: it was selected for the 8th Miami Latino Film Festival, won an award at the World Media Festival in Hamburg, received an award at the 7th San Francisco Latino Film Festival and also won the Golden Globe at the Hamburg Film Festival.
