The Healer
Mohamed Zineddaine. Morocco, Italy, Qatar, 2018, 110 min.
The overwhelming presence of a gigantic phosphate treatment plant in an urban periphery of Morocco is the red thread that binds the fate of the characters in this feature film.
Abdou is a teenager who seeks to improve his situation by learning to read and write. His adoptive mother is Mbarka, the neighbourhood healer, who forbids the boy to get an education. Chaayba, a pickpocket friend a few years older than Abdou, begins to visit Mbarka regularly to treat himself, initially for phosphate eczema.
Free admission until full capacity is reached.
