The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation is hosting, from 7 May to 12 June 2015, the exhibition ROCKS. Journey, matter, form and colour. A happy encounterworks by the artist Luis Vázquez (Cortegana, 1964) in which the author presents a large number of works made in various materials: terracotta, paper, bronze and aluminium are casts made on the orography of the Moroccan landscape. The opening of the exhibition will feature the Moroccan calligrapher Sadik Haddari (www.haddarisadik.com).
In his proposal, this sincere and committed creator shows the result of a life experience that was decisive for his work, which he himself sums up in these words. "On one of my trips to Morocco and near a beautiful typical northern village, walking along a path by the sea, I found some cliffs that offer textures of great beauty, they are works made by the sea and the wind on the sandstone rock (the "cliffs of the sea")....), that place was like a firmament full of stars in which, instead of finding constellations, I found the experiences, anecdotes and landscapes that I had come across in my travels around the country, simple and personal things, nothing really relevant but very suggestive, to the point that my own interpretation could be compatible with those of other people".
Starting from the pre-existence of the form, Luis Vázquez diversifies it according to the qualities of the material and finally signifies them with a symbolic and personal code based on the qualities of the support, the textures and the colours chosen. Sometimes, the visits and revisits to the same places, mixed with the anecdotes he had lived through, led to works that took on their own particular meaning in the creative process, a process that in turn acquired a global meaning after intense and hard work.
