The November session of the Al-Andalus Chair will feature the presentation of the book by Daniel Valdivieso The Cordoba of Ibn Hazm. Ibn Hazm's chronicle of the Qurtuba of the Banu Umayya.
About the book
Abu Muhammad Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Sa'id ibn Hazm (994-1064) is undoubtedly one of the most famous Andalusian poets and philosophers in Western culture thanks to his Collar of the Dove. Perhaps more unknown is his work as a historian, his chronicles being considered by many researchers to be on a par with those of Ibn Hayyan, Ibn al-Qutiyya or Ahmad and 'Isa al-Razi; all of them knew how to record in their manuscripts the reality of daily life in the capital of the Caliphate of al-Andalus.
These authors are the very essence of the Ibn Hazm's chronicle of the Qurtuba of the Banu UmayyyaThe result of an exhaustive historical documentation that gathers their first-hand testimonies, reconstructing the events and bringing back to life the most illustrious characters of the Umayyad Al-Andalus. It is, therefore, an entertaining tale whose bizarre situations and unimaginable achievements go far beyond narrative fiction.
