The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, with the collaboration of the Cervantes Institutes of Tetouan and Tangierpresents in these two Moroccan cities La ciudad de la mentira' (The city of lies) by Iñaki Martínez.

This novel, published by Destination y Nadal Prize finalist in 2015tells us a story of love and spies during the Second World War, when Tangier was in fact the refuge for those fleeing fascism described in the film 'Casablanca'", as the journalist and writer writes in an article. Javier Valenzuela who will talk with Iñaki Martínez to unravel the keys to Tangiers, a unique city in the world at that key moment in the history of the 20th century.

This activity is part of the programme 'Alqantara, bridges for dialogue and coexistence', developed for the Ministry in charge of Moroccan Communities Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs.

Iñaki Martínez (Guatemala, 1954) is the son of a Panamanian mother and a Basque father (an exile and member of the Basque Brigade during the Second World War). A law graduate, he grew up and studied in Spain, and during his youth was a founding member of Euskadiko Ezkerra and a militant in several anti-Francoist political organisations in the Basque Country. His life has always been spent between Latin America and Spain: he has been a member of the international relations commission of the Salvadoran guerrillas and has carried out international representation functions for the Basque government. He has also worked as a columnist on international politics for various newspapers in the Basque Country, Panama, Mexico and Nicaragua. He is the author of Arresti, a novel about the relationship between ETA and the business world. With The city de la mentira was a finalist for the 2015 Nadal Prize. (Planeta de Libros)

Javier Valenzuela (Granada, 1954). A graduate in Economics from the University of Valencia, he is a journalist and writer. After working for 30 years in the newspaper El País founded in 2013 the monthly magazine inkFree. He is the author of the blog Crónica Negra and has published nine books, eight journalistic and one novel, Tangerine. Valenzuela has been a permanent correspondent for El País in Lebanon (1986-1988), Morocco (1988-1990), France (1990-1993) and the United States (1996-2001). As a special envoy, he has covered major news events in the Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, etc., as well as other countries such as Algeria, Senegal, South Africa, Bosnia, Cuba and China.
