The journalist Luis Márquez Pineda presents his work at the headquarters of Fundación Tres Culturas. The travelling yearspublished by Gramática Parda. The event will be hosted by Jesús Vigorra, radio and television journalist. Romualdo Carnero, editor of Gramática Parda and Julio Muñoz, journalist and writer, will also take part.
The travelling years is the result of the experience acquired by the author during his time on the Canal Sur programme Andalusians around the world. With its publication, the author aims, as the programme did in its day, to bury clichés and fears, and to make other cultures known through the eyes of people who tell their experiences.
Synopsis
A young journalist is facing the challenge of his life. He has just turned twenty-six and has been hired as a reporter on a television programme in which he has to travel all over the planet; the perfect job. Full of doubts, nerves and responsibility, he begins his new and dizzying stage with a trip to the Dominican Republic that will begin to change his way of understanding journalism and the world. The plight of children in India and Senegal, the eccentric opulence of Qatar, the racial differences in South Africa, the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the links between the IRA and ETA in Northern Ireland, the weapons in Texas, the extreme climate of Lapland and the revolution in Egypt are some of the situations he will face on his journey, with which he aims to bring his viewers (now readers) closer to the social, economic, religious and political reality of these places. And always through the human stories of the people he meets along the way, the same people who suffer, enjoy, feel, suffer and, in short, live in very different ways to our own.
