Spain is the second largest producer of animated films in Europe and Spanish feature films enjoy great success at the box office due to the quality of the animation companies and professionals. As a result, its productions are recognised by audiences both nationally and internationally.

During the month of December, the Foundation offers the screening of two films by Spanish directors, both nominated for the Goya awards, which highlight the quality of Spanish animated films and their creativity when it comes to telling stories to young and old.

Elcano and Magellan. The first round-the-world voyage. Ángel Alonso. Spain, 2018, 90 min.

This entertaining film unveils one of the most exciting adventures ever told: the first round-the-world voyage, a circular voyage that begins where it ends, but from which nothing will ever be the same. This is the chronicle of two sailors who took the helm of history to change the course of humanity. A voyage that began under the command of Ferdinand Magellan and ended with Juan Sebastian Elcano, the true protagonist of this story.

Five ships set sail from the port of Seville in 1519. Storms, hunger, tribes and all sorts of incredible adventures stood in their way. Three years later only one made it back, completing an epic voyage around a planet whose roundness was finally proven.

Nominated for the 2019 Goya Award for Best Animated Film.

 

The performance will begin at 12:00 noon, with free admission with prior registration.
