As we enter the third decade of the 21st century, we are witnessing a normalisation of issues that had been banished from political discourse in democratic countries. Hatred - against the Jew, the Muslim, the immigrant..., but also against the poor, in the new scourge of aporophobia - has been reintroduced into the system.
July 2019 marked the 100th anniversary of Primo Levi's birth, and now we want to draw on his moral legacy in order to encourage a much-needed reflective debate on the moment in which we find ourselves and on this normalisation.
If not now, when? is a title that invites debate and reflection on this situation and on our responsibility as a society (as politicians, the media and voters) to prevent the history of hatred from repeating itself. The debate will be led by Mercedes Monmany, writer and literary critic, and José Cruz Díaz, Law graduate and Doctor specialising in anti-Semitism.
Activity carried out in collaboration with the Centro Sefarad-Israel and the Seminar on Holocaust-Shoah Studies and Antisemitism of the Universidad Pablo Olavide.
