WOCMES Book Exhibition. Ideas for the knowledge of Middle Eastern studies

Around 30 publishers and organisations will be present at the WOCMES Book Exhibition, located in the heart of the University of Seville. WOCMES Book Exhibition, located in the Patio de la Cristalera, will be open from 16 to 20 July, Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 19:00 and Friday from 10:00 to 13:00.

The WOCMESs Book Exhibition is not just a showcase for the industry's specialist publications, but aims to be a living, breathing space of constant activity.

For this reason the following activities have been designed:

  • Short book presentations (15 minutes), followed by book signings.

These presentations are a meeting point and an excellent opportunity to get to know some of the most interesting novelists on the market, explained by the authors themselves.

Tuesday, 17 July   

13:30-13:45. Emilio González Ferrín presents When we were Arabspublished by Almuzara.

16:30-16:45. Juan Pedro Montferrer Salas presents:

(1) From Toledo to Cordoba. Tathlith al Wahdaniyyah ('The Trinity of Unity') Theological fragments of an Arabised Judaeo-Convert, published by Sindéresis.

(2) Glossary of Nabataean Aramaic. With etymological and comparative notespublished by UCO Press.

Wednesday, 18 July

13:30-13:45. Virginia Luque Gallegos presents The Legacy of Al-Andalus. The Andalusian and Moorish Heritage in the Maghreb, published by Almuzara.

16:30-16:45. Rocío Rojas-Marcos presents Tangier, second homeland published by Almuzara.

Thursday, 19 July

13:00-13:45. The renowned expert Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University and winner of the WOCMES Seville 2018 award, will sign copies of his books at the Book Exhibition.

16:30-16:45. Sara Marusek presents Faith and Resistance The Politics of Love and War in Lebanonpublished by Pluto Press.

  • Live Mediterranean music

In different corners of the Pier Paolo Pasolini space we will have the opportunity to enjoy some examples of Mediterranean music performed live by the musician Chiqui García, which will help to create a genuine and unique atmosphere.
