This Congress, organised by S.E.C.R. itself, the University Institute of Religious Sciences, KAAICID and Pablo de Olavide University, with the collaboration of the Illustrious Bar Association of Seville and the Pluralism and Coexistence Foundation, aims to analyse the details of a highly topical issue, namely the use of violence in the name of religion.
Among others, we will answer questions such as: what is the relationship between religion and violence?; is violence an intrinsic part of religions, or, on the contrary, does religion promote non-violence?; what role do religions play in the formation of identities and in conflicts between them?; what can local, national or international organisations, both governmental and non-governmental, do to promote education in non-violence, respect for other religions and the protection of religious minorities?; is teaching at various educational levels a sufficient response to solve a problem of long historical standing and particularly acute today, which involves geopolitical, identity, social and cultural factors?; is our society educated in interreligious dialogue to put an end to this problem?; or, in short, what use is past experience in resolving modern conflicts?.
