The co-president of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation and advisor to H.M. the King of Morocco, André Azoulay, received yesterday the Presidential Medal of Honour for the Promotion of Peace and Interreligious Dialogue from the Israeli State.
André Azoulay, advisor to the King of Morocco Mohammed VI and co-president of this foundation, was decorated by the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, at a ceremony held yesterday in Jerusalem, where he was awarded the medal for the Promotion of Peace and Interreligious Dialogue.
With this award, the Israeli government recognises André Azoulay for his longstanding commitment and work to promote peace and understanding between the Jewish and Muslim communities around the world, especially in the territories of Israel and Palestine.
Throughout his long career, Azoulay has played a key role in seeking reconciliation between the two sides and has advocated a solution that respects the principles of sovereignty, dignity and justice for both peoples.
On the awarding of this medal - which in its day was received by prominent personalities such as former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Henry Kissinger and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel - André Azoulay told Moroccan television that he was "very moved and very hopeful".
