On the morning of 14 April 2021, the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, Elías Bendodo Benasayag, in his capacity as President of the Three Cultures Foundation, and Isaac Benzaquén Pinto, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, signed two agreements between the two institutions.
This is, on the one hand, a framework agreement with which both entities reaffirm their willingness to undertake joint activities, cultural, educational and research proposals related to the different Jewish communities in Spain and to the dissemination of the Jewish heritage.
In the words of the director of Tres Culturas, Concha de Santa Ana, this agreement is "another example of the commitment we have at the Foundation to cultural diversity and interreligious dialogue. A commitment that has defined our actions for more than twenty years and which we reaffirm every day".
On the other hand, and by virtue of the framework agreement, a first specific agreement has been signed which details the participation of the Fundación Tres Culturas in the commemorative days of the millennium of the birth of Ibn Gabirol - philosopher, grammarian and Hispano-Jewish Andalusian poet - which will take place on 21 and 22 April in Malaga, his native city.
After the signing, Isaac Benzaquén thanked the Three Cultures Foundation for its commitment to the different Jewish communities settled in Andalusia and Spain and highlighted the deep roots that the Sephardic Jews also maintain with Morocco, a country he thanked for "its welcome and protection for centuries".
In the same vein, Minister Elías Bendodo pointed out that the Kingdom of Morocco is the first country in the Arab world to include Jewish history and culture in its curricula from primary education, so that schoolchildren learn about Morocco's Jewish heritage from an early age and are trained in respect for diversity.
Furthermore, the councillor emphasised the importance of this collaboration to highlight the figure of Ibn Gabirol: "An exceptional thinker, philosopher and writer but, above all, a Malaga-born, Andalusian and universal Jew who knew how to bequeath to his contemporaries and to later generations values that, a thousand years after his birth, are the same values that guide this foundation in which we find ourselves".
