The Fundación Tres Culturas has launched the CARPET Project (Craft, Art and People Together), whose activities will take place in Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Morocco until 2019.

This is an interesting initiative co-financed by European funds within the Creative Europe programme (2014-2020). A total of 386 projects were submitted in this last call, 66 of which were selected, six from Spain and two from Andalusia.

The official partners that make up the partnership, in addition to the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation as leader, are:

– Creative Kernow in Cornwall, UK. www.creativekernow.org.uk

– CEARTE (Centro de Formaçao Profissional do Artesanato e Patrimonio) in Coimbra, Portugal. www.cearte.pt

It is worth mentioning the inclusion of Morocco as a country invited to participate and which is represented by the ADPD (Agence pour la Promotion et le Développpement du Nord). www.apdn.ma

This project continues the interest of the various partners in creation in its different forms, highlighting the importance of bringing artists and artisans closer to the public and thus to the creative process.

The main objective of CARPET is to promote the value of diversity through crafts and design in general as a key factor in the creation of economic and social wealth. To this end, several lines of action have been prepared to encourage, on the one hand, contact between artists, designers and artisans to create together; and, on the other, the linking of citizens with these protagonists through participatory workshops, talks and visits to studios, among other proposals, with the consequent enhancement of local production and its consumption.

Morocco's presence as a guest country will help to highlight and raise awareness of our common heritage, thus helping to combat signs of Islamophobia and discrimination.

The project will also work on the Audience development through conferences and workshops that will offer information on how to connect with new audiences, how to get citizens interested in following the activities that the centres carry out, among other things.

The activities that make up this project include the following;

The Twist. Artists/graphic designers/artisans from the participating countries will be selected to spend a month in a foreign country working together with another professional from a different sector. In addition, during this stay, workshops will be organised for different types of public to learn more about what these creators do (an activity called "workshops"). The artist in me).

CARPET Network. Open Studio Tour. Itineraries in each participating country with routes for the general public to visit the studios of local artists, craftspeople and designers. To this end, maps will be published with information about the open studios.. The first action will take place in Seville from 1 to 3 December 2017.

Flying CARPET souk. A fair lasting several days in which artisans, artists and designers will show their work, while workshops and an artistic installation will take place at a specific point in the city. This activity will take place in Seville and Coimbra during 2018.

The CARPET twist exhibition. Exhibition with the result of the residencies organised and the interaction of the citizens with the artists. This exhibition will be inaugurated at the headquarters of the Fundación Tres Culturas in Seville and will subsequently be taken to Portugal and Morocco.
