The Three Cultures Foundation and the Essaouira Mogador Association organised in the Moroccan city of Essaouira the 18th edition of the Festival of Atlantic Andalusias, which was held from 27 to 30 November 2022.
In this edition, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, under the guidance of Úrsula López, choreographer and artistic director of the Ballet, was in charge of bringing the essence of flamenco art to the Essaouira stage with the performance at the opening gala, held on 27 October, of the fragment of the show 'Naturalmente Flamenco' and the ensemble with the Orquesta Andalusí de Omar Metioui, a proposal that highlighted this link between Andalusian music and flamenco.
And as an expression of the most deeply rooted flamenco heritage, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía the following day presented the show 'Tríptico' in which the disciplines of flamenco, stylised dance and bolero dance form a harmonious whole, the fruit of a profound creative process, and of a process of thought and meditation inspired by the great figure in the history of flamenco dance, Antonio el Bailarín.
As part of the complementary activities of the Festival of Atlantic Andalusias, the Foundation actively participated in the festival's complementary activities, including the debate forum held in Bayt Dakira. [i] "The importance of the place, the importance of the link", where important personalities, including the Spanish ambassador to Morocco, representatives of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation of the Government of Israel, among other personalities and authorities present, spoke about the value of cultural heritage as a link to generate bonds of brotherhood between peoples.
At the same time, the director of the Three Cultures Foundation signed with the president of the Essaouira Mogador Association and Mayor of Essaouira, Tarik Otmane, the renewal of the collaboration agreement, which ratifies the interest of the Three Cultures Foundation in the development of the Festival of Atlantic Andalusia as an expression of the ties of cultural cooperation between Andalusia and Morocco and the preservation of the rich shared heritage, a legacy of centuries of coexistence. The signing of the agreement, which took place at the headquarters of the Essaouira Mogador Association, was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner, the Advisor to His Majesty the King of Morocco, André Azoulay, as well as the Minister of National Education of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Saaïd Amzazi.
[i] *Bayt Dakira, also known as the Museum of Jewish Memory, is a cultural and spiritual space, located in the Jewish quarter of the city, reflecting the close relationship between the two religious communities in Morocco over the centuries. It plays an important role in the preservation and enhancement of Moroccan Jewish memory.
