On 31 May, the Fundación Tres Culturas organised an event to celebrate Ramadan, specifically designed for the Moroccan seasonal workers displaced in the province of Huelva for the strawberry and red fruit campaign. Specifically, 165 of these women travelled from the farm where they work (located in the Huelva town of Almonte) to the Foundation's headquarters in Seville, in the Hassan II Pavilion, to share a very special evening, which was also attended by the Tres Culturas management team (headed by the director, José Manuel Cervera); the consul general of the Kingdom of Morocco in Seville, Farid Aoulouhaj; and the deputy consul, Abdellatif Alami.
The director of the Foundation and the Moroccan consul were in charge of welcoming those present, thanking them for their work in the Andalusian countryside and highlighting the important role they have played for years in these agricultural campaigns. After a few brief words from both, in Spanish and Arabic, the concert began with the singer Ehssan Toutan and her group, who made the audience sing and dance with their popular and very festive rhythms.
At sunset, and after the Adhan (prayer for the breaking of the fast or iftar), the women were able to enjoy a dinner consisting of Moroccan dishes typical of the season, from harira to pastries, including fruit, hard-boiled eggs and a variety of pastries, with water, juice and whipped yoghurt.
This event is part of the IntegrARTE programme, an initiative of the Fundación Tres Culturas in which the Spanish, Andalusian and, above all, Moroccan authorities have been involved, with the important presence of the Ministry Delegate in charge of Moroccans Resident Abroad and the Ministry of Labour and Professional Insertion of the Kingdom of Morocco. Also noteworthy was the involvement of the strawberry sector (in fact, the seasonal workers were accompanied by the entrepreneurs of the farm where they work) and by consultants from PRELSI, set up by the Interprofessional Association Interfresa to ensure good working conditions for these women.
They were also accompanied by the teacher of the Spanish courses for Moroccans that Tres Culturas is developing in Cartaya, Almonte, Palos de la Frontera, Moguer, Rociana and Lepe (with 13 groups in total) as part of the IntegrARTE programme, which also includes plays in Arabic, concerts and actions such as this celebration to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan.
