Presentation of WOCMES Seville in Madrid in collaboration with Casa Árabe

The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation continues its tour, on this occasion at national level, of different events to present and promote WOCMES Seville 2018. This time it will be on the occasion of the seminar Contemporary Arab Studies in Spain: Present and Future and during the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM).

On the one hand, the seminar will analyse the evolution and state of Arab studies in Spain by discipline. It will begin with an inaugural conference on the afternoon of 21 November, devoted to a synthesis of the history of Arabism in Spain and the current situation of contemporary Arab world studies in the country.

On the other hand, the forum is an informal exchange meeting between researchers from all over Spain, open also to researchers from other countries, in which research in its initial, intermediate or finished phase will be presented, with the aim of debating and getting to know the different work being done on the Arab and Muslim world.

FIMAM is an initiative for scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim world that brings together an important part of the Spanish research scene on these issues, with the participation of professors, researchers and experts from universities and research centres in Spain and other countries. Since it was founded, annual meetings have been held with the aim of building a network for the exchange of information.

At the meeting, which will be held at Casa Árabe's headquarters in Madrid, the Fundación Tres Culturas will have the opportunity to promote the WOCMES congress to an audience of experts, some of whom are directly related to the important academic event that will take place from 16 to 22 July next year in Seville.

FIMAM members will be informed of the progress in the preparation of the congress, both in its academic (types of papers, collaboration formats, institutions involved, etc.) and cultural (book fair, film showcase, concerts and programme of cultural-tourist visits, etc.) aspects.
