On the occasion of the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs in the framework of the Alqantara programme and the collaboration of the Friends of the Andalusian Legacy Association, is organising an open meeting with the Muslim community on Friday 10 June from 20:30h to share the tradition of this month of fasting.
Ramadan is not only an exercise in self-purification but also a sign of coexistence with the people and the family. In this line of union and twinning between cultures, we have prepared an event in which Amin Chachoo, musicologist specialised in Andalusian music, will give us the lecture 'Ramadan and the Iberian spirituality of Andalusian music'.
Andalusian music as a melodic manifestation of a perennial, religious and spiritual attitude. Whether Islamic or Christian, these medieval Hispanic melodies reflect a great spirituality. In Ramadan, the spiritual month par excellence, this Andalusian tolerance is most noticeable, which includes the most sacred aspects of the Islamic tradition: prayer and the reading of the Koran.
After the breaking of the fast, where the food typical of this celebration will be tasted, there will be a concert by the group ZejelThe group's work is based on the conviction that there are subtle yet profound links between the different musics that have developed their splendour on the luminous and fertile shores of the Mediterranean.
