The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs, presents the work Monologues of a caretakerproduced by the Issil Association in 2013, with the support of the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.
In the tone of a comedy, the play takes a humane and dignified look at low-skilled workers living in a context of strong economic and social inequality. The text, written and performed in Arabic, follows the style and norms of the genre of the one men showa dramaturgical style that mixes recitation and performance.
The main character, a school caretaker, relates fragments of his life, offering his vision of the world through a satirical and humorous point of view.
The artistic team of this play is made up of the author Issam El Yousfi; Rachid El Khatabi, in charge of the set design; and the actors Said Ait Bajja and Farid Regragui.
Monologues of a caretaker was awarded the prizes for best male performance, best text and best direction at the 15th edition of the National Theatre Festival, organised in Meknes from 6 to 13 June 2013, one of the most important national theatre festivals in Morocco.
It has also obtained numerous grants for national and international tours. Among these, the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs supported a tour last year in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom, and this year in Spain and Tunisia.
