Screening of the documentary '5 Broken Cameras' by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Thursday 28 November, 20:00h
The Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo is organising a film session on Thursday 28th (at 20:00h) to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which is celebrated every 29th November.
It was on 29 November 1947 that the United Nations General Assembly voted on the partition of the Palestinian territory under British mandate, and also on 29 November, but in 1977, that the same Assembly decided to mark the anniversary of that resolution by dedicating the day to solidarity with the Palestinian people.
For this year's commemoration we have programmed the screening of the film 5 broken cameras. This documentary, co-directed by Palestinian Emad Burnat and Israeli Guy Davidi, shows the peaceful resistance of the inhabitants of the West Bank village of Bil'in to the harassment and destruction caused by the construction of the 'separation wall', which separates them from the 60% from their farmland. Filmed almost entirely by farmer Emad Burnat - who had 5 cameras broken by the Israeli army in the process - with the collaboration of Davidi, 5 broken cameras allows us to follow the evolution of Burnat's people and family during 5 years of upheaval. The screening will be accompanied by an introduction, prologue and commentary by Dr. Mahmud Abdel Kader, representative of the Palestinian Community in Seville.
Nominated in the Best Documentary category at both the 2013 Oscars and the Israeli Film Academy Awards, 5 broken cameras was awarded the 2012 Van Leer Prize for Best Documentary at the Jerusalem Film Festival, and Emad Burnat was awarded Best International Documentary Director at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
Free admission until full capacity is reached.
